What is a Resource Parent?

A Resource Parent (previously known as foster parent) is someone who is trained and approved to care for children or teens who have been removed from their home due to abuse and/or neglect.

Who are these children?

Children placed is A Greater Love FFA are dependents of the state who are referred by county social services departments.

How long does it take to become a Resource Parent?

The process can take 3-6 months on average to complete. This is dependent to how long prospective families fill out the application and complete required steps.

Can Parents adopt their foster children?

While not all foster youth are eligible for adoption, there are many who are unable to return to their biological families and can be adopted by their resource families.

Do i have a choice of who gets placed in the home?

Yes! Resource families have a say in the youth placed in their homes. A Greater Love FFA works as a team to ensure a good placement match.

What is Foster Care?

Foster Care is a system created to protect children, who are abused, neglected, abandoned, or whose parents are unable to fulfill their parenting obligations due to illness, behavioral health issues and/or addiction. The priority is almost always reunification with their biological families, however if it is in the child’s best interest they may be placed for adoption.

How does one become a Resource Parent?

A Greater Love FFA has a list of requirements for our prospective resource homes. You must complete an initial phone interview where you can ask informative questions regarding the process. If determined to continue process, fingerprints will be completed for background check and pass the clearances, fill out our application documents, and pass initial home inspection. How long do children stay in Resource Homes?

The main goal is foster care is to reunite children with their biological families. Placements in your home could last a day to a few months or even years. in California, youth in foster care are eligible to receive services until they are 21 years old.

How does A Greater Love Support their families?

Social worker support is available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day by phone for urgent matters. Social workers meet with you 2- 4 times a month to discuss the child’s progress and to develop and implement a treatment plan.
